Dragonfly team member Henry Zwart has relocated to the other side of the globe to study towards a masters of computational science at the University of Amsterdam.

His course of study will take two years to complete, and will culminate in a thesis.

“I’m most interested in combining a passion area of mine, urban science, with statistical modelling to look at how cities can be more resilient towards climate change.

“I’d like the work I do to be supportive of decision-making, and to be part of bringing science into policy,” he says.

After studying at the University of Auckland for a bachelor of science in computer science and mathematics, and then a bachelor of science (honours) in computer science, Henry was originally keen to take a break from higher study.

“Dragonfly has been a great way to broaden my experience, especially in the area I’ve been focused on—modelling and statistical problem solving.

“This course has been about a year in the making, mostly because I was once again looking to dive deep into one area of computational science.”

Henry will continue to work remotely with Dragonfly. He will be focussing on developing and maintaining Gateaux, Dragonfly’s software for reproducible research.
